Sloss Real Estate's revitalization efforts began in the Lakeview District, where they spearheaded a public/private initiative to redevelop the entire 36-block area. The district includes Pepper Place, formerly a group of abandoned warehouses that have been completely renovated. The Pepper Place Complex currently houses Birmingham’s premier design center as well as a Farmer’s Market, theatre, and several shops, galleries, and restaurants. This highly visible renovation project has been celebrated in several major magazine articles and a CNN television feature.
Other ventures include renovations of the former Southern Progress Corporation Building and its neighbor, the quarter-million-square-foot First Commercial Bank Building into Class A office space. In addition, the former Rust Building has been renovated to create Ridge Park, which offers some of the finest views of downtown Birmingham. This renovation played a major role in the $100 million reinvestment into the surrounding Highland Avenue area. These and other projects have earned Sloss Real Estate numerous awards for design, construction, landscaping, and preservation.
