Jeni’s Ice Creams is coming to Pepper Place!
Now that the holidays are over, we’re getting ready for warmer days, and you know what that means – Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams!
In case you missed it, we announced in October that Jeni’s is coming to Pepper Place later this spring. Founded in 2002 in Columbus, Ohio, Jeni’s is known for making delicious, one-of-a-kind ice cream flavors, and for following what they call the “Fellowship Model”, which works directly with growers, makers, and producers to use high quality, ethically-sourced ingredients. In choosing Pepper Place for their first Birmingham location, the company nods to the days when its founder, Jeni Britton Bauer, purchased her ice cream ingredients from the local farmers’ market every week.
“We love Birmingham, and have many friends in food and entrepreneurship in the city, and are so happy to join one of our favorite communities on the planet,” says Jeni’s founder and James Beard award winning ice cream maker, Jeni Britton Bauer. “I’ve dreamt of opening here… we can’t wait to find even more inspiration and to share it with the world.”
Their first Alabama location will be found in Pepper Place on the corner or 29th Street and 3rd Avenue South, across from Ignite Cycle and The Lumbar. The pavilion will be a jewel-box design with 640 square feet, as well as a large outdoor seating area. Recognized as a Certified B Corporation, the artisanal ice cream company currently has 39 scoop shops across the country. Bauer also was recognized for her work in 2012, when her cookbook “Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams at Home” won a coveted James Beard Award.
Some of Jeni’s iconic flavors include Brambleberry Crisp and Gooey Butter Cake, and we’re already dreaming of tasting the other crave-worthy flavors Jeni’s will bring to Birmingham! The menu will even include some delicious new dairy-free options to try. Stop by and enjoy a scoop (or two) on the Jeni’s Pavilion at Pepper Place later this spring.
